In early spring 2011, it was found that the ozone concentration fell sharply in the northern polar region of the stratosphere. Spring takes over the amount fridges and freezers of ozone was in the end a record low. That the ozone event has now been published first in-depth scientific research.
According to this study of the 2011 Arctic ozone depletion was already comparable to the Antarctic ozone holes - at least if you look at the amount of ozone lost. The Arctic ozone layer is thinned to 80 per cent this spring. In the comparison of the south polar region a spring-like thinning of the past few decades, typically around 50 percent, the worst 70 per cent.
In other respects, the northern ozone hole was thankfully less severe than the southern predecessors. Arctic ozone hole concentration of ozone in the very least more than double compared to the typical Antarctic ozone hole. This can be explained by the fact that the Arctic winter stratosphere is alkaessakin typically much more ozone than in the Antarctic region in integrating early winter. In the north, therefore, "is more of the take off."
North of the ozone hole in 2011 was also an area of considerably smaller than the Antarctic ozone holes. One of the reasons is the fact that the hub of polaaripyörre of the northern polar region at this time about 40 per cent lower than the typical southern polar vortex. The polar regions are developing ozone holes are virtually napapyörteen in the cold.

The animation in the mid - early February 2011 - the ozone hole begins to take shape already clearly in the middle of the polar area, which was at first very red to the other one. (Video: NASA)
Ozone depletion in the stratosphere occurs throughout the globe, but especially in the polar regions at a local spring during the winter. This year's North ozone depletion ozone hole became worse until the Arctic stratospheric temperatures remained very low, an unusually long time. Temperatures in themselves were not quite record-breaking cold, but a cold period lasted for more than 30 days longer than has ever been observed. The end result was, therefore, that the 18-20 km altitude of more than 80 percent of the ozone decomposition.
Napayön cold does not in itself destroy ozone molecules, but to generate ozone decomposition suitable for more complex conditions. In cold clouds formed fridges and freezers in the stratosphere, where chlorine compounds such as certain chemically react with ozone, so that ozone decomposes. Some of the ozone-depleting compounds exist naturally in the atmosphere, fridges and freezers some are man-made in origin.
Above the Antarctic ozone depletion has been in the 1980s, since the middle of so severe that the culmination of the annual ozone hole has started to refer to. In the north, the ozone depletion has so far been much less than in the south, fridges and freezers but now it's seen that the ozone hole, after all, can also occur in the Arctic stratosphere, even here in the north of stratospheric temperatures are milder than the earth on the opposite poles. fridges and freezers
The researchers note that they are not able to predict, at the northern ozone depletion the next time any äityy the 2011 level, or even worse. At the same time, they warn that if the Arctic stratospheric temperatures drop even if only a little, to the evil of ozone depletion in the north to become an increasingly common fridges and freezers phenomenon.
Recovery of the ozone layer, there is opportunity. Ozone is formed naturally in the stratosphere to solar radiation launched in photochemical reactions. Many of ozone-depleting compounds emissions has been limited. Unfortunately, fridges and freezers we will have to wait for the old alike emissions leaving the stratosphere even decades.
Ozone Research published in the journal Nature. In Finland, it announced that no factual errors in the Finnish Meteorological Institute, who was involved in this international study. Abroad, it was written, including ABC, New Scientist, BBC, CBC and Canadian science policy fridges and freezers at the same time shedding light on Nunatsiaq News.
